Helambu

 View of Helambu

This is a region of highland villages in Nepal, close to Kathmandu. It is the home of the Hyolmo. The word Helambu derives from the word Yolmo or Hyolmo. The Helambu region begins at the Lauribina La pass and descends to the Melamchi valley. Helambu is also famous for its sweet apples and artistic Buddhist monasteries and it is a sacred place for all the Buddhists around the world.
Helambu Trekking
This is a good trek for people who don't have much time in Nepal. It is an 8-day long trek which starts in Kathmandu itself, but can be completed in as little as 5–6 days. The normal trailhead starts off at Sundarijal and goes past Chisopani,Yolmo, Kutumsang, Magin Goth, Tharepati, Malemchigaun and Yolmo, Tarke Gyang. After which you have the option of two roads one is the footpath via Sermathang or the bus route via Kiul Takpa Kharka. Kashye Both ways ultimately meet at Melemchi where you can take a bus back to Kathmandu. The maximum height reached during the trek is about 3650m.

As the journey progresses you visit the homes of Brahmins, Tamangs and Sherpa people of Nepal . This place has scenic grandeur and pleasant climate as well as a long history of Buddhism, culture and ancient tradition of Tamang and Sherpas. In Helambu region the Sherpa are quite distinct from the Sherpas of Solu khumbu(Everest region) both in language and customs. The people in Helambu where carefully exploited to a lower cast because of a Nepali king who was afraid they could give rebellion as they live all around the city regions. To this result, they still live in backward civilization. The ranges of mountains that rise above us match the diversity of the people we meet. From low altitudes we have excellent views of mountains that include Langtang, the Annapurnas, Manaslu and even Everest on a clear day. This is a pleasant and exciting journey, a time to relax and become immersed in the beauty of the Himalayas .
